Jerome N. Clune, New York Telephone manager

Jerome Neville Clune, of Williamsville, a telephone company manager and Navy veteran, died Tuesday in Sisters Hospital. He was 83.

Born in Endicott, he joined the Navy after graduating from Union-Endicott High School.

He served as a petty officer first class, stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

In 1958, he graduated summa cum laude from Niagara University, then began a long career with New York Telephone and NYNEX.

He retired in 1991 as division operations manager for Western New York.

A talented musician, Mr. Clune was known for his singing skills and extensive repertoire on the piano.

In college, he and his brother, Robert, formed a popular barbershop quartet.

He served as president of the Amherst Symphony Orchestra and was a lieutenant governor of Kiwanis for Niagara Frontier North.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, the former Kathleen Flynn; three daughters, Debby O’Leary, Beth Clune Hawkins and Katie; a brother, Robert; a sister, Kay Leong; and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court at Maple Road, Amherst.
