Bills’ preseason schedule starts taking shape

Little by little, the Buffalo Bills’ 2014 pathway is coming into view.

The NFL on Wednesday released preseason opponents and sites.

Only one of the Bills’ five exhibition games has a time and date. They will play the New York Giants in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 3 in Canton, Ohio. The night before, Bills legend Andre Reed will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The Bills’ other preseason particulars will be announced later, although the opponent breakdown indicates the joint training-camp practices they hope to hold with the Pittsburgh Steelers will happen.

In the NFL’s first full week of preseason games, the Bills will play the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium and visit the Steelers at Heinz Field in the second week.

Between those exhibitions, the plan would be to bus to the Steelers’ training-camp facility in Latrobe, Pa., for three days of intersquad practices.

The Bills won’t play in Ralph Wilson Stadium until their fourth preseason game. That will allow for more renovations to be completed before a game is held there.

They will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the team’s annual Kid’s Day game and complete the preseason against the Detroit Lions.

The NFL’s regular-season schedule has not been finalized yet, but the league usually reveals it in April.

Fox Sports Wisconsin, citing an unnamed source Wednesday, reported the Green Bay Packers will visit the Bills on “Monday Night Football” this year. The Bills haven’t played on Monday night since 2008.

Another possible date is a Thanksgiving game against the Lions at Ford Field.

With CBS televising that game, the Lions have to play an AFC team, and their only AFC opponents at home this year will be the Bills and Miami.
