Why the band Yes continues to tour without Jon Anderson, original vocalist and co-writer of much of the fantastic music that comprises the group’s golden age, is a question best left to those directly involved.
Fans should look at the positives – you can now see Yes touring with new vocalist John Davison on July 8 in the Seneca Allegany Casino, and catch Anderson in solo, acoustic mode at 8 p.m. Friday in the intimate Bear’s Den in the Seneca Niagara Casino.
The last time Anderson played this same venue, two years back, the show was transcendent, an uplifting and up-close-and-personal interaction between artist and audience that found Anderson in strong voice, ebullient mood and fine fettle as guitarist and pianist.
The set list wasn’t too shabby either, drawing as it did from Anderson’s considerable work with Yes, as well as various solo works and collaborative efforts, among them the cult classic “Olias of Sunhillow” album. For his spring tour, Anderson will offer a similar program of Yes and solo songs.
Tickets start at $55 (box office, Tickets.com).
