A 35-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both of them Orchard Park residents, were arrested on drunken driving-related charges after an argument inside a moving car on Abbott Road caused the car to strike a utility pole near Windom Avenue about 3:05 a.m. Sunday, Orchard Park police reported.

Police said the car, driven by Danielle Lovett, crashed against the utility pole after her codefendant, Raymond Ellis, grabbed the steering wheel, causing the accident. Ellis was charged with driving while intoxicated, passenger interference of a driver, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and refusing to submit to a breath test.

Ellis was accused of walking away from the car after the crash and Lovett was charged with driving the damaged vehicle to Windom Avenue where she was arrested. Lovett was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated for having a blood-alcohol level of 0.19 percent, more than twice the state’s legal limit. Both face further proceedings in Orchard Park Town Court in several weeks.
