Mary Elia, of Williamsville, formerly of Niagara Falls, died Saturday in Beechwood Continuing Care Skilled Nursing Center, Getzville, after a lengthy illness. She was 84.
She was born Mary DiMuzio in Sant’ Eufemia, Pescara, Italy.
She worked for Bell Telephone as a telephone operator for many years at offices in Beaver Falls, Pa., and Niagara Falls.
From 1960 until 2002, together with her husband, she owned and operated Frontier Tax and Duty Free Liquor, Frontier Motor Lodge, the Peace Bridge Exhibition Center and Custard Corner on Porter Avenue.
Mrs. Elia was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Niagara Falls.
She enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer, participating in several golf leagues.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Peter R.; a son, Anthony Robert; a daughter, Diane E. Walter; and two granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, after prayers at 9:15 a.m. in Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls.
