The Western New York Flash women’s professional soccer team added depth and strength to their lineup Saturday with the acquisition of defenders Kat Williamson and Courtney Wetzel from Portland and a first-round pick in the upcoming college draft. In exchange, Portland received defender Sarah Huffman and a player to be named.

Williamson, 24, started all 22 games for Portland in 2013, leading them to the inaugural NWSL Championship. She was a two-time All-American at the University of Florida.

Wetzel, 25, made six starts with 16 appearances for Portland. The Oregon State graduate was also a member of Ottawa, playing from 2008-12.

The Flash concluded their preseason schedule Saturday with a split match beating Colgate, 3-0, and playing Syracuse to a 0-0 draw. Sam Kerr, Kristen Meier and Jasmyne Spencer scored against Colgate.

The Flash begin regular-season play April 13 at the Washington Spirit.
