Regals hockey advances

Emma Ruggiero scored the game-winning goal as the Buffalo Regals advanced to the girls Tier I 16-under national quarterfinals with a 2-1 win over New Hampshire. Goaltender Amber Dubill made 23 saves.

The Northtown Center in Amherst is the site of the Tier II nationals for 14-under, 16-under and 19-under.

In the Tier II 19-under the Buffalo Stars lost to Alaska, 4-3. Jordan Roetze, Alanna Herne and Emile Burow scored for the Stars. They went 2-1 in pool play and advanced.

The Buffalo Bisons dropped a 3-1 decision in the Tier I 19-under to Shattuck-St. Mary’s. Despite the loss they advanced to quarterfinal. Shattuck beat this Bisons team by a goal in last year’s national semifinals.

Amherst’s Tier II 14-under team lost to New Jersey, 8-0 while the 16-under team lost to KPHA, 3-1. The Buffalo Regals Tier I 14-under lost to the East Coast Wizards, 7-2.
