More security among stadium changes

Fans will see enhanced security measures when they come to Buffalo Bisons games at Coca-Cola Field this year.

The ballpark will no longer allow backpacks, but fans will be allowed to carry in a 16-by-16-by-12 single-compartment bag. Fans will be allowed to bring in one 20 ounce factory-sealed plastic bottle of water per person; one small juice box per child; one single-serve portion clear plastic sandwich bag of food per person no bigger than 6.

All bags are subject to search.

In addition, fans may bring the following into the stadium: baseball gloves, diaper bags, standard-size seat cushion with no storage pockets, collapsible strollers, video and photo cameras (but no tripods), small radios and umbrellas (opened only during rain delays). Items not allowed in Coca-Cola Field include firearms, knives, glassware, silverware, cans, coolers or nets of any kind. Once in the ballpark, fans will notice the two major stadium upgrades: the sound system and new LED message boards.

The sound system will make music and announcements clear and free of echoes, with a total of 177 speakers placed throughout the stadium.

Also new are two LED message boards along the club-level facade. The message boards will display the score at all times and update fans with real-time game statistics and out-of-town scores.

New food items at the ballpark this year include mini tacos, loaded baked potato bites and mac ’n’ cheese. An expanded wine cart and more craft beers, including selections from Hamburg Brewing Company, have also been added.

Fans eating at Pettibones Grille will see more menu items, including braised short ribs, sesame chicken skewers, slider burgers on pretzel rolls and a turkey sandwich on cinnamon bread with caramelized apple and maple glaze.

Among the key promotional games for 2014 are Star Wars Night (June 7), Zombie Night (June 27), and Independence Eve with the BPO (Thursday, July 3).

The mascot race with Chicken Wing, Blue Cheese, Celery and sometimes Atomic Wing, returns to the ballpark this year. A Chicken Wing mascot bobblehead giveaway is scheduled for Aug. 23. Other giveaways include: magnetic schedule (Thursday), baseball cap (June 1), player jersey T-shirt (June 25), logo baseball (July 10), whiffle bat/ball set (July 27), team photo (July 30) and youth jersey (Aug. 13).
