Friends of the Night People has expanded its services to include a food pantry that is open from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at its main location, 394 Hudson St. A grand opening celebration is set for 7 to 9 p.m. April 22.

“People do not want to come to the soup kitchen to eat if given a choice to cook and eat food at home,” said Friends of the Night People Executive Director Joseph Heary. “This allows the homeless to have more options so that they do not have worry about getting to an area kitchen every day for lunch or dinner.”

Since the pantry’s “soft opening” in January, about 35 individuals and families have been served each night.
