Buffalo City Court Judge Robert T. Russell Jr. was honored Monday as a recipient of the Advocate for Action award of the White House office of National Drug Control Policy bureau.

Russell, who is head of the Buffalo City Court’s nationally recognized Drug Court and its Mental Health Court and founder in 2008 of what was then the nation’s only Veterans Treatment Court, was honored for “astounding efforts and groundbreaking thinking” in efforts to return first-time offenders to the community. Monday’s ceremony included a private tour of the White House.
