Geraldine R. Brinkworth, 90, gardener, volunteer

April 25, 1923 – March 23, 2014

Geraldine R. Brinkworth died March 23 in her East Amherst home. She was 90.

Born Geraldine Uebelhoer in Buffalo, she graduated from Bennett High School and Capital University in Ohio. She attended Bryant & Stratton.

Recognized for her beautiful gardens, Mrs. Brinkworth was an active member of the Amherst Garden Club. She volunteered at the greenhouse of Buffalo’s Veterans Affairs Medical Center for more than 30 years, growing and delivering flowers and plants to the patients.

A member of the Buffalo Yacht Club, she was an avid swimmer who enjoyed whitewater trips and parasailing. A world traveler, she enjoyed theater and was a longtime member of Brookfield Country Club and its women’s golf team.

She was listed on the platelet donor honor wall at Roswell Park Cancer Institute for donating more than 200 times.

Mrs. Brinkworth’s husband of 54 years, Thomas, died in 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Rydza; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fairdale Banquet Center, 672 Wehrle Drive, Amherst.
