Driver charged with DWI after Wyoming County crash

WARSAW – A 24-year-old motorist was charged with driving while intoxicated following a weekend accident that injured him and a passenger, Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies reported today.

The accident happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Hiram Road in the Town of Arcade, where a pickup truck driven by TeeJay P. Johnson, of Bliss, went off the road and hit a large tree, deputies said.

A male passenger, who wasn’t further identified, walked from the accident scene to a home for help, deputies said. Meanwhile, Johnson and a front-seat passenger, identified only as a female, were freed from the wreckage by emergency crews from Arcade.

Johnson and the female passenger were airlifted to Erie County Medical Center, from which Johnson was discharged Monday. Deputies said the female victim was hospitalized in stable condition; the other passenger was treated at Wyoming County Community Health System and released.

Deputies said their investigation continues.
