BATAVIA – Genesee County’s bank book will be a little healthier this week because of an unusually large windfall from the sale of foreclosed properties approved by the Legislature.

The amount – $406,186 – from 27 properties sold at auction will go into the county’s general fund. The actual sales topped $655,000 but property taxes and late fees reduced the total. It is believed to be the largest amount in foreclosure sales in recent history because businesses and quality homes were involved.

The legislators last week approved the sales so bankers, realtors and the buyers can proceed in acquiring the property, which includes vacant lots, residences and businesses.
