An East Aurora marketing firm that represents big names in sports and television is one of six companies acquired in a roll-up to form one large sports management and media conglomerate.
Stealth SME, a newly formed holding company based in New York City, has acquired 100 percent of Cenergy Marketing & Communications, a sports, entertainment and lifestyle marketing company founded in East Aurora in 2002. Cenergy will retain equity in the company, but declined to say how big of a stake. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“I’ve been looking for the opportunity to grow and scale the agency and help bring the great work we’re doing in East Aurora to an even bigger platform in New York and L.A.,” said John Cimperman, Cenergy founder.
The acquisition will not affect Cenergy’s operations, and the company and all of its employees will stay in East Aurora, Cimperman said.
“Cenergy is keeping its brand, Cenergy is keeping its offices, Cenergy is keeping its people and we’re probably going to have to add people because of this,” said Cimperman, whose new title within Stealth is senior managing director of Stealth Media House.
The East Aurora company has 32 employees.
Cenergy will become part of Stealth Media House, the company’s marketing division. The other five companies – Dutt Sports Services, Inc. in Texas; The Sloan Sports Group in California; LifeSports Management in California; Crimson Marketing Group in St. Louis; and Envision Sports Agency formerly in North Carolina – will make up Stealth Sports. Stealth Sports is a full service sport, sporting event, media and broadcasting group which will represent about 200 professional athletes in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB and have negotiated a total of $3 billion in compensation for its clients.
Cimperman said the company would remain committed to its local clients, such as Bison Foods, Upstate Farms and Rich’s, and emphasized the acquisition will allow it to provide its clients with new resources and more access to the national stage.
“We’ll also have all these sports and entertainment agents as part of our family, so if any of our clients is looking for an NFL or an NBA player, now it’s just a phone call away,” he said.
Cenergy’s client roster includes sports giants such as ESPN, Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, CBS Sports Network and some individual sports teams; big local names such as First Niagara, Rich’s, Bison Foods and Upstate Farms; and other national clients such as AT&T and the TBS television network.
Cimperman, former marketing officer for the Los Angeles Kings and Buffalo Sabres, founded Cenergy Sports & Entertainment in 2002.
