BlueCross inconsistent on its birthing coverage
The spokeswoman from BlueCross BlueShield said that there were many reasons it would not cover birth at the Birthing Center of Buffalo. Why does the BlueCross BlueShield client handbook state that it does cover delivery at a licensed birth center? Why does it cover birth as an in-network benefit at New York’s only other birth center – the Brooklyn Birth Center? Why does BlueCross BlueShield pay for home births here in Western New York, but refuse to pay for a facility licensed by the New York State Department of Health and a setting approved by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology? Why the inconsistency?
