Cut Copy brings its peppy EDM to the Town Ballroom on Tuesday

Australian indie-electronica outfit Cut Copy has a new album out titled “Free Your Mind.” If you believe that the best electronic dance music should reference ’70s AM radio pop, disco and ’80s synth pop, then you probably already own the thing, or have streamed it, or perhaps borrowed your brother’s girlfriend’s copy. This is infectious stuff, often infectious enough to make you feel guilty for liking it.

Dan Whitford, who started Cut Copy as a solo project in 2001, is surely a man who spent a fair amount of time listening to Roxy Music and Scritti Politti, and who knows, maybe even A-ha, too. But just as Daft Punk penned a fully believable valentine to Chic and ’70s disco with “Random Access Memories,” so has Whitford concocted a convincing amalgamation of his influences with “Free Your Mind.” It’s fun stuff.

It’s doubtful that those who see Cut Copy at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Town Ballroom (681 Main St.) will be perceiving the music as a guilty pleasure. They’ll be too busy dancing.
