Fast facts about Western Michigan

Senior guard David Brown has undergone two reconstructive knee surgeries. He returned last season to become the MAC’s Sixth Man of the Year and was first-team all-conference and the MAC Tournament MVP this year.

Freshman Tucker Haymond was a kid dribbling a basketball around the hotel lobby during a Honolulu vacation when he first met WMU coach Steve Hawkins at the Rainbow Classic. The Broncos got to know Haymond and invited him to practice.

Steve Hawkins is in his 11th year as head coach of the Broncos. He took over a team that advanced to the third round of the NIT the previous season and led it to the NCAAs in his first year on the job.

Center Shayne Whittingham, a native of Paw Paw, Mich., has flourished as a senior, averaging 16.3 points, 9.1 rebounds to earn first-team all-MAC status.

Connar Tava, a 6-6 sophomore forward, shoots 60.6 percent from the field. He averages 12 points per game.

This is the second Buffalo trip of the season for the Broncos. They were blown out by UB, 84-63, on Jan. 29.
