Conservative candidate narrowly wins board seat

WILSON – Conservative Party candidate Gary Darnell edged past James Madan, the Republican and Democratic choice, with a three-vote margin Tuesday to win a four-year term on the Wilson Village Board, 176-173.

Madan was appointed to the board by Mayor Bernard Leiker last year to fill the remaining year of Leiker’s trustee term when he became mayor.

Both Darnell and Madan are registered Republicans, and it was their first election.
