Last year: Tiger Woods matched Sam Snead’s record for victories in an event with eight and returned to No. 1 in the world for the first time since October 2010. Snead set the record in the Greater Greensboro Open.

Last week: Australia’s John Senden won the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor for his second PGA Tour title. Kevin Na was second, a stroke back.

Notes: Woods fought back problems in his last two events. He withdrew during the final round of the Honda Classic after 13 holes, as his back flared up after an awkward shot . He wound up with a 78, his highest score ever in a final round. Woods also won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational for the eighth time last year. ... Tournament host Arnold Palmer is 84. ... Scotland’s Martin Laird won in 2011 to become the first European winner at Bay Hill. ... The Texas Open is next week, followed by the Houston Open and the Masters.

Last year: Stacy Lewis won to move from third to first in the world. She closed with an 8-under 64 to beat Ai Miyazato by three strokes.

Last event: Paula Creamer made a 75-foot eagle putt on the second hole of a playoff with Azahara Munoz to win the HSBC Women’s Champions on March 2 in Singapore.

Notes: The tournament is the fifth of the year and first in the United States. ... Top-ranked Inbee Park is coming off a victory two weeks ago in China in the Ladies European Tour’s World Ladies Championship. ... Cheyenne Woods, Tiger Woods’ niece, received a sponsor exemption. The Phoenix player won the LET’s Australian Ladies Masters last month. ... Teen star Lydia Ko is in the field. ... Juli Inkster will captain the 2014 U.S. Solheim Cup team at St. Leon-Rot in Germany. ... JTBC is a broadcasting company in South Korea. ... The tour will be in California the next two weeks for the Kia Classic in Carlsbad and the Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage.

Last week: Fred Couples won the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, Calif., for his 10th Champions Tour title, birdieing the final two holes.
