Wyoming County officials say that volunteer firefighters from six companies saved the major portion of a Town of Perry farm complex while battling a weekend fire that destroyed a 33-by-63-foot commodity building.

Volunteers from Perry, Perry Center, Silver Springs, Castile, Gainesville and Leicester battled the blaze for more than four hours at David and Mindy Smithgall’s farm at 7863 Route 39, Wyoming County emergency-services officials reported. Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 5:20 a.m. Saturday.

The fire caused an estimated $25,000 damage. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
