BATAVIA – The Genesee County Legislature on Friday approved up to $6 million in tax-exempt bonds for student housing at Genesee Community College.

About half of the sum will cover a project from 2007 and $2.8 million will pay for the addition of 16 living units in two buildings. The housing will be able to accommodate 451 students by the beginning of the fall semester.

In other matters, the Legislature:

• Renewed a one-year agreement to share public health services with Orleans County. The two counties currently have the same public health director and share an environmental health post.

• Approved the continued lease of space in County Building q2 for Genesee Veterans Support Network, which serves about 5,000 veterans.

• Agreed to a new starting time for the twice-monthly meetings – 5:30 p.m., instead of 7 p.m.
