Jr. Sabres finish strong, lead series

Darren McCormick’s goal 50 seconds into the third period sparked a four-goal comeback that Dylan Howatt capped with an empty-net goal with 2:27 left as the Buffalo Jr. Sabres defeated Georgetown, 4-1, at Northtown Center in Amherst in the opening game of their Ontario Junior Hockey League conference semifinal.

Joseph Pianta made 39 saves for the win. Howatt set up Pat Egan’s eventual game-winner 7 minutes, 10 seconds later. Michael Ederer also scored for Buffalo, which plays Game Two in Georgetown at 7:30 tonight. The Jr. Sabres host Game Three at 7:50 p.m. at Northtown Center.
