Bengals’ Lewis picked as regional Coach of the Year

Eugene Lewis of Buffalo State has been named the men’s track and field Coach of the Year for the Atlantic region. The honor came from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Lewis led the Bengals to their second SUNYAC Indoor Championship.

Several Buffalo State athletes are competing at this week’s NCAA Division III championships in Lincoln, Neb. Cory Cox is entered in the long jump and 200-meter dash. Rich Pete and Ray Richardson will compete in the triple jump. The relay team of Bumkoth Jiak, Felipe Yanez, Austin Becker and Alex Ngabo is in the distance medley.

Meanwhile, two University at Buffalo athletes will take part in the NCAA Division I championships in Albuquerque, N.M., which opens today. Jonathan Jones is entered in the shot put, while Mike Morgan will take part in the heptathlon. Both of their competitions will be on Saturday.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: The University at Buffalo has a busy weekend coming up, with three games in three days. The Bulls play Rutgers today in Richmond, Va., followed by games in the same spot with Virginia Commonweath and Lafayette on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
