Disabled sex offenders do not belong next door

I am writing in response to the March 5 letter, “Disabled sex offenders being unfairly vilified,” from members of the Self-Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS).

First of all, I would not be negative or hurtful to these individuals. But I would not allow imprisoned individuals released from closed prisons into a community location near a town park with a SANYS attendant for supervision. These people committed sex crimes and were put into prison for their acts.

Secondly, these individuals were placed in state-owned properties for disabled individuals, not disabled criminals. Let’s take all these individuals and place them in homes next door to the letter writers and Gov. Andrew Cuomo so they can watch them.

The areas around our homes are for our children and grandchildren. They should be able to play in our town park and not worry about disabled sex offenders, who are not from our community.
