WHEATFIELD – An unknown suspect left the hot water running in the men’s locker room shower in the Town of Wheatfield Recreational Center at 2790 Church Road over the weekend, causing $1,500 in damage to the building, according to the Niagara County Sheriff Department.

Town of Wheatfield Acting Recreational Director Michael C. Ranalli told deputies Tuesday that the room was checked on Friday and the damage was found by cleaners on Sunday afternoon. He said the building had been open during that time for sporting events.

He said the hot water and moisture from the steam caused the wall to warp, which in turn caused the ceramic wall tiles to fall off the walls. Damage was estimated at $1,500, with additional costs for repairs.
