Silver Creek man convicted in gun case

MAYVILLE – Benjamin Wassell of Silver Creek, who was the first person charged under the New York State SAFE gun control act, was found guilty of three felony charges in county court today. The jury deliberated all day Friday and until about 1 p.m. today.

Wassell, was found guilty of two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a firearm and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a firearm. The case was prosecuted by the state Attorney General’s Office. Prosecutors dropped the SAFE act charges but retained the three felony counts against Wassell.
