The Buffalo Jr. Sabres overcame deficits of 2-0 and 3-1 to earn a 6-4 win at Mississauga on Monday, claiming the Ontario Junior Hockey League best-of-seven first-round series, 4-2.

Ryan Schmelzer’s goal with 3:16 left broke a 4-4 tie. Jason Heerdt added an empty-net goal with 57 seconds to go for the final margin.

Schmelzer, Daniel LaFontaine and Nick Desimone each had a goal and an assist for Buffalo, the No. 2 seed, while Wilson Vershay and Pat Egan also scored. Joseph Pianta made 34 saves.

Buffalo will face No. 3-seed Georgetown in the best-of-seven conference semifinal series. Games dates have yet to be announced.
