NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – The two new catamarans providing boat rides near Niagara Falls will be called the Niagara Wonder and the Niagara Thunder, Hornblower Niagara Cruises announced Monday.

The company, which will take over the boat tours on the Canadian side from the Maid of the Mist Corp. starting this year, held a naming contest for its new boats. The winning names were selected in December from among thousands of entries from around the world and had to be approved by Canadian regulators.

Niagara Wonder was one of several names submitted by Lina Muraca’s kindergarten class at Sacred Hearts Catholic Elementary School in Chippawa, Ont. Niagara Thunder was submitted by Dharmesh Rami of Hyderabad, India.

For winning, Sacred Heart School was awarded a school group trip aboard Niagara Wonder for the entire school ,including all students and staff. Rami won an all-expense paid trip for two to Niagara Falls.
