Two area men picked for state Outdoorsmen Hall

Two Erie County men prominent in outdoors involvements are among nine nominees selected for induction into the New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame during its annual banquet on April 26.

George Rockey, active in the Southtowns Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and a longtime Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs affiliate, has organized DU banquets and fundraisers for decades.

The late Richard “Dick” Kirby founded the Quaker Boy Game Calls Company in Orchard Park and established that business as an international supplier of game-call models and accessories. But Kirby is best known for his religious devotion and a personal devotion to involve youths and needful persons in the sport of hunting.

Rick McDermott of Oswego County, founder of the Crossbow Coalition, will be honored at the installation banquet along with George Franke of Chenango County.

Like Kirby, the late Frank Hartmann of Sullivan County left countless admirers and beneficiaries following a life devoted to outdoors programs and events.

The banquet will be held at the Rusty Rail Restaurant in Canastota on April 26 beginning at 5 p.m.

The reservation deadline is April 19. For more details, call (315) 363-3896 or (315) 829-3588.
