LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man who was charged with possession of crack cocaine and a switchblade after a Sept. 13 visit from his federal parole officer was arraigned on a felony indictment Thursday in Niagara County Court.

James S. Smith, 23, of Dudley Avenue, pleaded not guilty to third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Also indicted and previously arraigned on drug charges were two other Falls men arrested with Smith in a room in the Caravan Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the Falls.

They are Smith’s brother, Lawrence E. Smith, 25, of Linwood Avenue, and Robert L. Hilson, 22, of Chilton Avenue. Lawrence Smith, who was arrested on another drug charge in the Falls in December, pleaded not guilty last month to third- and fourth-degree possession. Hilson denied two counts of third-degree possession.
