The state Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration will explain and discuss plans to improve passenger and freight rail service on the Empire Corridor between New York City and Niagara Falls this evening in the Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum, 263 Michigan Ave.
The session, one of six being held this month statewide, will begin with an informational open house at 4 p.m. on the High Speed Rail Empire Corridor Tier 1 Draft Environmental Impact Statement, followed by a public hearing from 6 to 8.
A similar session will be held Friday evening in Rochester.
The statement reviews five alternatives in providing higher-speed passenger rail service and how they will affect mobility, the environment and economic growth.
The statement can be found at www.dot.ny.gov/empire-corridor.
Deadline for public comments is March 24.
