Distraught woman’s screams lead to three drug-related arrests

Erie County sheriff’s deputies arrested three people on drug-related charges in the Town of Newstead early Monday morning, after a distraught woman was heard screaming for help.

Deputies Gene Nati and Jason Clark responded to the 1:10 a.m. call on Bloomingdale Road and found the distraught woman claiming that a male might be in trouble in the apartment next door.

The two deputies, along with two state troopers, went next door, where they spotted a clear plastic bag containing a white powder believed to be a controlled substance, according to police reports. They also found several hypodermic needles and other apparent drug paraphernalia.

The deputies charged Joshua S. Martaus, 30, and Jenea M. MacLeod, 29, of Batavia, with criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic needle, according to the arrest reports. They also charged Randy J. Biaselli Jr., 32, who lives in the apartment, with criminal nuisance.
