Rev. Kathleen E. Gahagen, Lutheran pastor

NORTH TONAWANDA – The Rev. Kathleen Erin Gahagen, of North Tonawanda, pastor of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, died Friday in Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland after a lifelong struggle with cystic fibrosis. She was 44.

Born in Pittsburgh, she grew up in Cleveland. She was a graduate of Regina High School in South Euclid, Ohio, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Wittenburg College.

Rev. Gahagen came to the Buffalo area in 1997 when she was assigned as pastor at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church. Known as Pastor Keg to her parishioners, she preached in her bare feet and always began her Sunday sermons with a joke.

She and her husband, George Faust, were married in April 2012.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her father, the Rev. Robert Gahagen; her mother, Anne Zielinski; a brother, the Rev. Patrick Gahagen; two sisters, Mariah Scott and Kanita Kimmons-Ducloux; and her grandmother, Mary Gahagen.

A memorial service will be arranged.
