Department of Environmental Conservation fishery professionals will discuss stocking issues and other fish-related concerns during “State of Lake Ontario” meetings held in the area.
The first meeting will be in the Carlson Auditorium at the Rochester Institute of Technology, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday.
The Cornell Cooperative Extension Building at 4487 Lake Ave. in Lockport will be the site for a meeting from 6:30 to 9 p.m. March 13.
Both gatherings will focus on the status of salmonid and warm-water fisheries, including a re-introduction of salmon rearing at the DEC Caledonia hatchery. To check on previous fishery assessments, go to dec.ny.gov/outdoor/27068.
The Greater Rochester Southern Tier Branch of Quality Deer Management Association will award a $1,000 scholarship to the top entry among graduating high school students residing in Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne or Wyoming counties.

Participants in the DEC Day-Old Pheasant Chick Program can apply until March 15 to receive a rearing guide and free chicks to rear for release in the fall.
