Jessica Powers and Brittney Kuras of the University at Buffalo won championships at the Mid-American Conference women’s swimming and diving championships. They were held in Geneva, Ohio.
Powers won the 500 freestyle in a school-record time of 4 minutes, 46.36 seconds. It was 10 seconds better than her previous best.
Kuras took the 200 individual medley for the third time, as the senior won in 1:59.2. Spencer Rodriguez of the Bulls finished second in 2:00.64.
UB was second in the 200 freestyle relay, as Marissa Murphy, Taylor Steffl, Rachael Ragen and Kuras lost by .15 seconds to Akron.
The Bulls are in a tie with Bowling Green for fourth place with 138 points after the first day. Akron leads with 201 points.
