Canisius endowment tops $100 million for first time

Canisius College’s endowment is now more than $100 million for the first time in its history.

The milestone comes five years after the endowment’s value stood at $57 million and follows the conclusion of a major fundraising campaign in 2012.

“This is a milestone for us, as we continue our ascent among regional comprehensive universities in the country,” President John J. Hurley said in a statement.

Some of the new money raised came from investments, he said.

Most of the endowment goes toward scholarship assistance for students.

The funds also support faculty research and academic initiatives, such as the Peter Tower Professorship in Business, the Culture Lecture and Performance Series and the Contemporary Writer’s Series.

Canisus is one of 28 Jesuit universities in the nation.
