Katherine Jones, served as mother to dozens

Katherine Jones, of Buffalo, a pastor’s wife who served as mother to dozens of children, died Wednesday in Buffalo General Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was 57.

Born Katherine Wright in Camilla, Ga., the youngest of 19 children, she was a graduate of Bennett High School and Bryant & Stratton Business Institute.

She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the National School of Theology in Dover, Del., from which she also received an honorary Ph.D.

Mrs. Jones, the wife of Pastor Charles Jones, of True Praise and Worship Church on Walden Avenue near Bailey Avenue, worked for 20 years at HSBC Bank as an accounts payable supervisor .

She also was a Mary Kay beauty consultant for 30 years and won numerous awards.

Although she had no children of her own, she was mother to five adopted children and more than 30 foster children during more than 20 years that she served as a foster parent. She also assisted a needy family.

In addition to her husband of 23 years, survivors include three daughters, Ann Montgomery, Starice and Joi Buchanan; two sons, Charles III and Zackhery; three sisters, Annie Clark, Eveline Forman and Thelma Wright; and four brothers, William, Johnny, Ernest and Henry Wright.

Services will be at noon Friday in Antioch Holiness Church, 1461 Michigan Ave.
