Suspect in Southtowns burglary ring gets six months in jail

One of five suspects in a burglary ring that targeted Southtowns homes has been sentenced to six months in jail followed by five years’ probation.

State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang imposed the mixed sentence Friday on Jeremy Agosto, 22, of Greene Street, who was given credit for the eight months he has already spent in custody in the case following his arrest last year with three other burglary ring suspects.

Agosto pleaded guilty last year to attempted second-degree burglary and fourth-degree conspiracy to commit burglary.

Four other defendants in the burglary ring have pleaded guilty and await sentencing by Wolfgang.

The defendants, all from Buffalo’s Lovejoy section, drove to secluded homes in the Southtowns during the day, knocked on doors and kicked them in when no one answered, said Assistant District Attorney Paul E. Bonanno. They then stole items and sold them at pawnshops, Bonanno said. The ring targeted residences in Orchard Park, Concord, Marilla, Holland, Wales and Boston, authorities said.
