Canisius took advantage of solid shooting to pick up a road win while Niagara struggled against the best team in the conference in women’s basketball action Thursday.
In Jersey City, N.J., the Golden Griffins shot 44 percent from the field in a 56-43 win over Saint Peter’s in the Yanitelli Center.
The Griffs hit 22 of their 50 attempts.
Kayla Hoohuli scored 11 of her game-high 16 points in the first half. Jamie Ruttle added 10 points for Canisius while Tiahana Mills had eight rebounds.
The Griffs (11-15, 7-10 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) close out their road trip at 2 p.m. Saturday when they play at Iona.
Meanwhile in New Rochelle, Niagara dropped a 78-62 decision to conference-leading Iona at the Hynes Center.
The Gaels went 16 of 43 from three-point range (37.2 percent) and took 77 total shots from the field.
Damika Martinez had 23 points for Iona (23-3, 16-1 MAAC) while Aallyah Robinson had 20.
Freshman Victoria Rampado led Niagara with 17 points and seven rebounds. Chanel Johnson had 12 points while Meghan McGuinness had 11.
The Purple Eagles fell to 8-18 overall and 6-11 in conference play. They close out their last road trip with a 4 p.m. game at Monmouth on Saturday.
