Clarence manufacturer eyeing $3 million expansion

Seal & Design, a Clarence manufacturer of gaskets, seals and O-rings, is considering a $3 million expansion of its Casilio Parkway operations and is seeking incentives from town and state economic development agencies for the project.

The company would renovate its existing, 52,000-square-foot facility and add a 35,000- to 40,000-square-foot addition, at a cost of $2.5 million to $3 million, said Dean Penman, Seal & Design’s owner and president. Work could begin as soon as this summer.

The project would add 10 to 12 workers over five years to the 85 current employees, Penman said. The company also employs 23 at a facility in Toronto.

Penman said he hasn’t made specific requests of the Clarence Industrial Development Agency and of state economic development officials, but said he wouldn’t move forward with the expansion unless Seal & Design receives tax incentives to help offset its cost.

The Clarence IDA is likely to hold a preliminary discussion of the project at its hearing Thursday morning.
