Susan and Greg Rydza were awarded the touch of excellence award for a community management team, the highest accolade from the Holiday Retirement Group. The Rydzas are lead managers for Montgomery Park Independent Retirement Living Community at 6363 Transit Road in East Amherst. The Rydzas were chosen from management teams in more than 350 communities internationally.

Independent Health named local business leader Anthony J. Baynes to its board of directors. Baynes is the founder and owner of six Buffalo-based corporate entities: A.J. Baynes Freight Contractors, Extra Mile Transportation, Evolution Development, Evolution Logistics, and 100 South Elmwood.

Seneca Gaming Corp. publicity manager Tony Astran has successfully completed the Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations by the Universal Accreditation Board. The accreditation entitles Astran to use the APR professional designation. He is also the 2014 president of the PRSA Buffalo Niagara Chapter and one of 36 professionals in Western New York to earn accreditation.

Company Connections

Kona Oasis spa at 326 Cayuga Road in Cheektowaga will host a grand opening celebration from 3 to 6 p.m. March 2. The public is invited. Co-owners Lisa Cyrankowski and Gwen Higby and staff will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate Kona’s services and product lines.

Meals on Wheels for Western New York retained Manzella Marketing Group in Cheektowaga to manage its advertising and marketing efforts this year. Manzella Marketing, in collaboration with the Meals on Wheels’ director of strategic communications, redesigned the Meals on Wheels website (mealsonwheelswny.org).


Read to Succeed Buffalo received a two-year $152,000 commitment from the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation to support literacy coaching work underway in elementary schools in Buffalo’s 14215 ZIP code. The donation will support RTSB’s work in prekindergarten through second grade, representing 22 classrooms and about 550 Buffalo school students through the 2014-15 school year.
