Everywoman to honor its executive director

Everywoman Opportunity Center Inc. will honor its executive director and chief executive officer Myrna F. Young upon her retirement at a gala dinner March 13 in Salvatore’s Italian Gardens, 6461 Transit Road, Depew. For tickets and information, call Elizabeth Eisenhauer at 847-1120.

Young, who was the first woman volunteer firefighter in Niagara County, joined Everywoman in 1978, the year after it was incorporated, and became executive director and CEO in 1981.

Before it closed because of severe funding cuts in December, Everywoman had served more than 64,000 local women and helped more than 17,000 of them find jobs. Operating from five centers in Western New York, it administered the largest Displaced Homemaker Program in the nation.
