It’s all on the road for UB, Bona

All the Big 4 men’s and women’s college basketball action is away from home today with the University at Buffalo and St. Bonaventure’s men and women all taking to the road.

The Bona women start it with a mid-day game against Saint Louis at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis (12:30 p.m.). Coach Jim Crowley’s team (19-6, 8-2) will be looking to extend its win streak to eight games by sweeping the Billikens (9-14, 4-6). The Bona win streak is currently the longest in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Two St. Bonaventure players earned weekly honors for their play last week. Forward Hannah Little posted back-to-back double-doubles against Saint Joseph’s and UMass last week and was named A-10 Player of the Week. Sophomore guard Nyla Rueter was named College Sports Madness A-10 Player of the Week in a week which included a career-high 27 points against Saint Joseph’s. Bona edged the Billikens, 62-60, at the Reilly Center last month.

The UB men (13-7, 7-3 MAC) will begin their finishing drive in the Mid-American Conference against Miami in Oxford, Ohio (Radio 1270 AM, 7 p.m.). It’s the first of eight conference games against East Division opposition to wrap up the regular season for the Bulls. UB forward Javon McCrea, the MAC East Player of the Week after his 25-point, 20-rebound game against Central Michigan on Saturday, needs eight points to pass Jim Horne for second on the Bulls’ all-time career scoring list.

Miami (9-12, 5-5) is led by 6-foot-7 senior forward Will Felder (14.4 ppg and 7 rpg). UB won at Millett Hall last season, 79-71, but lost to the RedHawks at home, 58-57.

St. Bonaventure’s men (13-10, 3-6 A-10) will be trying to nail their first Atlantic 10 road victory against Fordham (9-13, 2-7 A-10) in the Bronx (SNY, Radio 1450 AM, 9 p.m.).

The Bonnies’ six conference losses have been by a combined 24 points.

Fordham has the leading scorer in the A-10 in freshman guard Jon Severe (19.0).
