One person was injured in a collision this morning between a Buffalo fire truck and a car while the truck was responding to a report of an automobile fire on Route 5 at the boundary of the city and Lackawanna.

The injured person, who was in the car, was described as conscious and alert, though the car was totaled, according to authorities. The person was transported to Mercy Hospital.

Damage to Engine 4, stationed at the firehouse at Abbott Road and Hollywood Avenue, was described as substantial. Accident Investigation Unit officers were called to the scene at about 8:30 a.m.

Lackawanna authorities said the report of the auto fire turned out to be a vehicle that was releasing smoke.
