Another 10th street gang member pleads guilty

Daniel Colon 28, has become became the 29th of the 44 alleged members of the city’s notorious 10th Street Gang to plead guilty to a federal charge. Colon pleaded guilty Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to a Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organization charge carrying a prison term of up to 20 years and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced at 1 p.m. May 23.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. said that on Oct. 17, 2009 Colon took part in the shooting of an associate of the rival Cheko’s Crew or the 7th Street Gang. Colon and others drove up to the rival gang member at Plymouth and Pennsylvania Streets and shot the rival gangster. Hochul said it was in retaliation for the Aug. 11, 2009 murder of Colon’s friend and fellow 10th Street Gang member Eric Morrow.

Hochul said that Colon on Jan. 24, 2010 and other 10th Street Gang members shot and injured another member of the rival 7th Street Gang and later the same day he and other 10th Street Gang members forcibly stole property, including a cell phone, from two victims on West Avenue while displaying a firearm.
