UB, Ball State have plenty of incentive in tonight’s basketball game

The University at Buffalo and Ball State will be two men’s basketball teams with a ton of incentive when they meet tonight at Alumni Arena in a Mid-American Conference game (Radio 1270, 7 p.m).

The Bulls (11-7, 5-3 MAC) are spoiling to avenge a 71-68 loss to the Cardinals in Muncie, Ind., last month, a defeat that may come back to haunt coach Bobby Hurley’s team in its quest for a high finish in the MAC. That was the only conference win so far for Ball State (4-15, 1-7).

UB is coming off a 74-68 loss at Bowling Green, an outcome that aided by two technical fouls against the Bulls, helping the Falcons wipe out a six-point deficit and take the lead with 2:28 to play.

As for the Cardinals, they are chafing over last Saturday’s 67-65 overtime loss to Northern Illinois in Muncie, after leading by 10 points in the second half.

In other Big 4 men’s basketball, St. Bonaventure (13-8, 3-4 A-10) will visit Richmond (14-8, 4-3) in a 7 p.m. Atlantic 10 Conference clash. The Bonnies own an 84-70 win at home over the Spiders. Bona, which is 0-3 in conference road games, has been off since its 78-65 win over No. 21 UMass. Richmond is coming off an 81-70 loss at VCU.

The St. Bonaventure women (17-6, 6-2 A-10) will seek their sixth straight win when the take on Saint Joseph’s (17-5, 6-3 A-10) at the Reilly Center at 7 p.m. Katie Healy (Lancaster) of the Bonnies coming off a 27-point outing in last Saturday’s 74-67 home win over Fordham, which tied here career high. Healy is averaging 15.9 points and 8.4 rebounds a game for Bona, which is 8-1 at home so far.
