Matthew H. Peters, of Depew, a self-employed contractor and designer of homes, died Sunday in his home after a long illness. He was 84.

A lifelong resident of the Buffalo area, he studied business administration at the University of Buffalo.

Mr. Peters served in the 1st Cavalry Division in Japan during World War II and was a member of the Chopin Singing Society.

A contractor and designer of many homes, including his own, Mr. Peters also worked as a clerk at the U.S. Post Office on William Street.

As an entrepreneur, he also owned several rooming houses in the Buffalo area.

Mr. Peters is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Ruth Parker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. John Gualbert Catholic Church, 83 Gualbert St., Cheektowaga.
