A man who threatened the owner of a Cheektowaga auto repair shop with a baseball bat has been sentenced to four months in jail.

James L. Sylvers, 37, of Lackawanna, was arrested Jan. 17, after he showed up at a repair shop at 3521 Harlem Road and tried to hit the owner with a bat, according to a police department spokesman. The intended victim fled to a neighboring business and asked someone there to call police.

Sylvers kept going after the man until police arrived, the spokesman said. He was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

Sylvers pleaded guilty to the weapon charge and was sentenced by Town Justice Paul Piotrowski.
