Environmental study completed for Town of Dunkirk water district project

DUNKIRK – Eric Weis, an engineer with Clark Patterson Lee, told the Town Board last week that the environmental study on the Roberts Road Water District project is finished and that his firm is working with Municipal Consultants on a grant application.

Weis said Thursday that some funding may be received in 2014 but that it was more likely that the project would not see rural development funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture until 2015.

He described the possibility that funding would become available as good.

The town has conducted several public meetings and received support from residents of the district.

At the Town Board’s reorganization meeting earlier in the week, Town Justice Robert Hubbard conducted a swearing-in ceremony for the following officials: Town Justice Pricilla Penfold, Supervisor Richard Purol, Councilmen Juan Pagan and Robert Penharlow, Town Clerk Jean Crane and Highway Superintendent Richard Butts.

All of those officials won re-election to four-year terms.

A letter was circulated from Planning Board Chairman Vincent Vecchiarella regarding the board’s recent meeting to review proposals submitted on the town’s comprehensive plan.

Vecchiarella said the Planning Board will meet at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in Town Hall to further review the two proposals for the work.

The chairman requested that the Town Board hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 to take action on whichever recommendation is approved at the next Planning Board meeting.

Town Board members agreed to the special session.
