Broken water pipe forces Chef’s restaurant to close

The owners of one of downtown Buffalo’s most popular restaurants, Chef’s at 291 Seneca St., announced Sunday evening that it will be closed today through Wednesday to clean up water damage caused when a pipe burst in a third-floor attic.

Mary Beth Billittier and Louis J. Billitier Jr. said in an email to media that they made the decision on closing after inspecting the water damage. Wait staff were told not to report for work Monday. Administrative staff will work during normal business hours.

Buffalo firefighters were called during the afternoon to the restaurant, which is closed on Sunday, after alarms were triggered by the water.

The Billittiers added, “While the restaurant will be closed for lunch, dinner and banquets, drop-off catering orders will still be filled. ... The family apologizes for any inconvenience to customers, and appreciates their patience.”
